The main reason for starting this food and dining post is based on my observation; most of the articles disclosed online already contain a plentiful information on the best places to chow so I won’t go there. However based on experience and a lot of trips to the doctor, I felt compelled to bring awareness to you pioneers before you set sail to the land of Glory.
- Get a Hepatitis B Vaccine : Complete the cycle and gain immunity from this known afliction before it’s too late. There’s nothing worse than taking a condition as your only souvenir back to your home.
Avoid Peak Hours on popular joints : Your friends and family might say that this restaurant is delicious; the food is a must try, however every time I go during the crowded times like lunch hour or holidays the food is ghastly readied. For example, I went to Zan Mai for sushi but the crabstick + toru combo was poorly made and tasted worse because there’s just too many orders going around for the chefs to concentrate. A&W is another culprit, there wasn’t enough glasses for a single scoop root beer float so they gave us standard cups. Unforgivable!! I want a chilled filling whenever I hold a root beer float! Stay away from fast food restaurants on public school holidays. It’s not worth the miss-experience.
Bring a hand Sanitizer: You can buy these at most pharmacies such as Guardian. Some hawkers and mamaks wash sinks are poorly maintained making them utterly filthy and unusable: In 2008, I went with my colleagues to the Islamic Arts Museum exhibition and for lunch we stopped by at Mc Donald’s. The wash sink was clogged, stuffed with tissue paper and the water was brown. Gross. Avoid these mishaps and sanitize your hands before you eat. There is a growing controversy to weather these products are safe in the first place but above all else always make sure your hands are clean before you eat.
That’s it for now, just be aware that even if the place looks clean, it might not be what you see. Take Harrots for example, a cafe that opened near the One Academy, For starters they screwed up my order twice (I asked for Iced Barley Lemon and they gave me hot. After complaining they simply put ice on the drink and expected me to finish a half and cold beverage. Deplorable!) and even had a fly on my noodles.
[ TLDR Version ]
- Get vaccinated
- Be careful of crowded eateries
- Wash your hands

Greetings Elaine and welcome to my blog. This incident occurred on May, 16th, 2009, I ordered your restaurant’s “Mee Mamak” set, it was for lunch after one of my classes. I was with a group of over ten classmates therefore I have several witnesses. I got extremely upset to see insect like flies crawling inside the noodles and I immediately pointed it out to one of my classmates sitting next to me. What really surprised me was I still had to pay for this meal even when I couldn’t eat it. Nor did your waiters graciously replaced my meal, only offering to clear the table. The damage has been done anyway and the best thing to do from here is just to move on. I advise your management to observe stricter standards for cleanliness and hygiene so that this matter won’t ever occur. Weather I choose to dine at your premises again will however take a lot of re-convincing…
