Un-illuminated lightning bolts

It’s time for another design philosophy bullshit nonsense brought to you by yours truly. What really struck me last semester was when a number of my classmates observing some of my WIP exclaimed, “That style is so Benjaminish!” Unsure of what that really meant, my interrogation water board procedures dug out the following facts about my current style of art direction:

• dull, gloomy and dark
• spacious yet extremely complicated
• too much text
• chaotic over dosage of needless elements

Hell, you even notice it in my current blog design. So why’s that? Why do I favor such negativism? Why am I always looking at the darker side of things? Why is every assessment of affairs truck-hit with a dark cloud of tar pit hail?

The truth is always ugly and hurtful.

Any given praise is greeted with constant coatings of superstition and paranoia, yet any condemnation is acknowledged just as it is. Here we are in society today, as Art directors, Multimedia Designers, doing every bit we can to hide, cover, exaggerate the truth.. It’s lovely, I could not be a lawyer but I still wanted to lie. Is it a sin? Perhaps that’s the best way to see the world in our dog eats dog society.
